NOT hormonal...

Turns out, I wasn't hormonal.  I was sick.  Less than 30 mins. after writing my blog, I had stomach cramps so bad I thought I was going to die.  Then it hit me -- I'd had two pieces of bread the night before.  You see, I've had these stomach issues off and on for the last few years and I've been trying to narrow it down to what it could be that makes me have these 'dumping' episodes.  We thought it was caffeine, heavy metal poisoning, and lettuce at different points but it's all been or seemed temporary.  With the caffeine, it ended up not helping.  I switched to herbal teas and still had issues so then we tested our mugs and they tested positive for cadmium which is in the same category as lead.  So, we got rid of the mugs and for a little while, all was well.  Then it started happening again and we thought it might be my diet so I laid off of the diet to give my system a rest.  Then it seemed as if the pre-bagged lettuce we were getting was causing an issue.  Then recently it has started up again and I was like WHAT NOW???  So, I started trying to see when it happened most and I told my hubby that as strange as it seems, it seemed to happen every time I had bread.  But only a certain bread.  Over the holidays I had bread, but it was mostly home-made.  But then after I went back to store bought... a low carb kind.  And now I'm wondering if I have a soy allergy.  Because the last 3 times I've gotten this, the only thing is common is soy.  You see, this low carb bread is made with a mixture of flours... one of which is soy flour.  I LOVE this bread and it's my fave.  But the last two times I got this, I had more than 2 slices of that bread in one day and then the next morning, sick sick sick!  The 1 time I had a low carb pita... but again, made with soy flour and again, sick sick sick!  I never thought of soy before.  But what I do know is that I can eat lettuces fine, coffee, bread, and even pasta and cereal with no problem normally.  I only have this reaction once in a while.  And so far, soy is the only thing I can find that ties these incidents together.  Not wheat, gluten, or any other thing.  Just soy.  Not a huge deal since I don't eat it often, but I know I need to be careful -- especially of the bread.  I seem to be fine if I only have a slice or two, but more is an issue.  But honestly... I'd rather have an English muffin than the bread.  LOL  I only have bread when I want some sort of sandwich most of the time.  Occasionally toast.  LOL

So, after my insides being all inflamed yesterday pretty much ALL day, I was worried about what my weight would be this AM.  I avoided food for the most part for the first half of the day, but I did munch on oyster crackers, water, and some Fresca.  I finally had a normal lunch, snack, dinner, and dessert.  I almost didn't weigh this morning for fear I would still be up, but I was 193.0.  I'll take it for sure after yesterday's ordeal.  I'm not sure what tomorrow's weigh-in will be, but even if I am the same, I'll for sure take that, too!  I'm just glad that I feel normal today.  Yesterday was just awful.  I felt like yuck pretty much all day and my mid-section was so tender.  I just couldn't STAND it!  BLEH.

Now, today's weather is BLEH.  It looks AWFUL out.  We've had thunderstorms all morning and now its getting foggy out.  YUCK YUCK YUCK.  But I am thankful it is Saturday and we are all here and snug in the house except for the hubbs.  He had to go to work, but he got there early before the mess hit.  Hopefully it has passed by the time he goes to come home.  I wish he had been off today, but we were lucky he was off for the last couple of days.  We got a LOT done.  We purged more stuff.  I was able to give away, sell, or trade more stuff.  Which was AWESOME.  I'm waiting to hear back from a lady about our couch.  If that sells, we should be able to get our new couch, double chair, and ottoman soon.  Still not sure what to do about our blue chairs... my oldest keeps asking to keep at least one, so we may.  We also got our treadmill moved out to the garage along with the weight bench.  Now, if we could just get the garage done so we could actually workout in there!  Just too cold right now.  I want to finish it in more so that it could be actual rooms if future owners wanted it to be, but not so much that is actually done.  I just want it roughly finished so that we can use it without freezing.  I hate doing laundry right now because it's SO cold in there.  Hubby said that we would work on that and doing the floor in the foyer while he was off.  Mostly insulating the garage door, replacing the entrance door and putting the sweeper and the insulating strips on.  We already put in the windows with the rest of the windows and then a week or so ago, new mini-blinds.  Eventually we will do the floor and ceiling.  It'll be like our own little private gym!  I'm a tiny bit excited!  And if we can get the temp more even, I'll be able to workout while the kids play in the rec area.  :D

I forgot to mention I went to the store and OH MY did I load up!!  All my fave stuff like berries and granola bars were on sale so even though I spent $30 over my budget, I shouldn't have to buy some stuff like granola bars, snack bars, crackers, and some frozen items for a while!  It is SO much easier to diet when you're stocked up on yummy things.  I normally do snack bars, but not really the granola ones.  But these new ones looked so good I wanted to give them a try.  They are oatmeal, raisin, almond and cranberry.  NOM NOM NOM.  My hubby said they were junk compared to Kashi, but Kashi uses a lot of soy.  And well, I just don't want to take the chance.  :(

I guess that is all for now... I really should get off of here and do some housework.  Mostly want to straighten up the back of the house then do some more on the downstairs and the living room when youngest takes his nap.  So, off I go!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

  1. Sorry that you weren't feeling well. Soy is difficult for many people to digest (and screws with womens' hormone levels as well), so I wouldn't be surprised if that is the culprit.
Since soy is one of America's biggest crops it is found in tons of food items, so just be mindful of what you are buying.
