Routines and finishing

Oh joy.  We are back to our 'regular routine' this AM.  By that I mean, my oldest has gone back to school and I'm the one who sent him off today.  So, we are slowly but surely getting back into routine.  But here's the thing.  I'm trying to decide if I need to change up my routine.  Today, I am essentially doing the same routine I always do except instead of coming straight to the couch this AM, I decided to do a bit of straightening in the kitchen first.  So, I'm on the couch a bit more than usual, but then again, it's raining and there isn't much I can do.  I do need to do bills, etc. at some point this afternoon, but that will be a bit later.  I need to be more awake and feel worth something to do bills.  lol

Back to my point.  I am thinking I need to adjust my routine.  I was reading Didi's blog and realized, my routine has gotten.... stale.  Not only that, but I feel like I'm not taking great advantage of my time.  I KNOW I spend a lot of time reading and on the net.  Moreso reading recently since the hubbs got me a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas!  But here's my typical routine.  I get up at 6AM with my oldest to get him on the bus at 7.  I come in and go back to bed.  Get up between 9:30 and 10 with youngest.  We do the breakfast thing and watch cartoons and then he plays while I do the net thing and/or reading.  Today it was a bit of reading and now net.  So, I'm a bit past 12 with the kitchen pick-up.  Anyways, I don't get up and going for a couple of hours in the AM.  I'm NOT a morning person and I fight getting up and staying awake.  I just feel... like a zombie.  I've always been like this.  As a kid, as a teen, as a young adult and now.  I've ALWAYS had a hard time getting up in the AM.  By the time I get going, it's almost lunch.  I work hard through the afternoons and into the evenings which with my hubby's schedule, that isn't too bad.  I usually go about 7hrs.  But after that, I am down for the evenings.  I will do simple things like help the kiddos with homework and get them in their baths, etc., but not much else.  I'd say all in all, I am up and going a good 7 or 8 hrs. a day.  That's if I don't have to run errands or go to the store that night.  It's much longer if I do.  Anyways, if you say an average of 8 hrs. to house and errands and then 8 for sleep.  Plus about 2.5hrs. for rest and refuel, I still am left with about 5.5hrs. in a day where nothing really is done.  I'm wasting about 5hrs. every day!  That's nuts to me.  I can see wasting a few hours, but 5 is just crazy.  I could be wrong, but that seems about right.  I probably waste an equal amount of time in the AM and PM.  It doesn't feel like I do, but maybe I do.  So, I'm trying to figure out a way to make my days more productive.  I'm thinking I am going to have to suck it up and get up earlier.  *GULP*  I hate mornings.  :/

As far as finishing things, I am thinking it is time I gathered up all of my lists around here and compiled them.  I have several small task lists for projects and crafts that I have been working on.  I think I should make a couple of new lists and start marking them off so that I can see what progress is being made.  I think I have so many 'small' tasks now that I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and I need to get to it and get them knocked out.  And I'm one of those people that loves crossing things off of lists!  I hope I can find all of my lists... things tend to disappear in this house.  LOL

Hmmm.... what else?  Oh yeah!  Weight loss.  Now that a routine is coming back, I am going to be working on getting back into a routine with my weight loss.  I seem to do okay for about a day and a half, then I fall off the horse.  But, I keep getting back on.  I really need to stick with it as some of my fave clothes are getting, shall we say, SNUG.  Yup yup.  SNUG.  I know I can do it, and I know I will do it.  I'm just having a hard time getting into gear.  I think this is the main reason why I hate living where it gets cold.  I think the cold really affects me.  I'm like a bear who wants to eat and sleep during the Winter months!  No joke.  I'd much rather it be warm and balmy.  I just have to make do.  We are where we are and we'll do the best we can.  But eventually, I hope to move somewhere that feels warmer and more like home.  We've never felt at home here.  Anyways, with the cold, I have a very hard time being motivated to get going and do anything.  But I'm trying!  That has to count.  lol  I'm not really stressing out, but I have been taking some extra Vitamin B and D in hopes of getting a little perk up.  It seems to be helping.  But I've got to do better, ya know.  I need a good routine again.  *sigh*  I guess a routine is going to be a key for me this year.

Ok, I hear the hubby up so I need to get going.  Laters!

  1. First- Thanks so much for the well thought out comments on my recent posts! You really go above and beyond with your support and I appreciate all your input!

Second- I agree whole-heartedly with needing a switch up on the routine! I actually do really well getting moving when I get up... the problem is when I get up! If I allow myself to wake up naturally I don't get up until usually 12:30pm to as late as 2:00pm!!! When I'm out, I'm MFin' out!!! I'm just so reluctant to give up my alone time at night- like right now while I'm catching up on blogs... watch me post about this tonight now too!

  2. Yea it's definately difficult to get things going especially when the weather is not optimal. I honestly would rather sleep in than wake up early and hit the gym (I go early cuz there's less people in the machines) but it's darn cold! :) Good luck with the routine.. it's only hard in the beginning :)

  3. I am not a morning person either, but dang- I probably waste a good five or six hours a day in the mornings playing around on my computer. I think if I switch things up a bit I will feel more productive. I want to shift my computer time to the end of the night, so that all I am doing is reading and posting a blog for perhaps an hour or two TOPS. I really really don't need to play on pinterest and goof off on the computer for so many hours a day.
I have decided that I'm going to treat my morning routines like a job. I feel like if I'm not going to work full time I should be more productive in other ways.
Ug, the cold does the same thing to me after about a month. That's why in the future we want to be snowbirds. I love a little bit of winter, but I'd like to get a taste of it and then go to Sarasota for four months until the rest of winter has blown by.
